Dr. Charlie Harris

I AM:

a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, author, professor, psychologist, and, most importantly, a woman of faith. Like many individuals, I maintain a busy lifestyle and know first hand how stressful role demands and responsibilities can be and the toll it can take on your mental and physical health as well as your relationships. Too often those of us with demanding lives can find ourselves existing on autopilot rather than living our lives.

I founded Sapience Life Solutions to help adults experience more fulfilling lives by effectively managing their many roles, addressing negative thinking, emotions and behaviors, and making wiser, health affirming choices.

WHAT I DO:

I provide brief individual and couples therapy, life coaching, and workshops. I also contract with agencies to provide specific services such as diagnostic consultation. I work exclusively with adults.

Over the years, I have worked in a number of practice settings including an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a community mental health agency, a faculty practice with primary care/mental health integration, and private practice.

I currently practice part-time while holding a full-time, tenured faculty appointment as a Professor of Psychology where I teach undergraduate majors and train future clinicians in our graduate training programs. I also conduct research on body image perceptions, stress and coping, authenticity and the superwoman syndrome.

WHY I DO IT:
Quite simply, I care about women and their families. I am particularly committed to helping women approaching the middle stages of life as their needs and the transitions they face often do not receive adequate attention. Oftentimes, stress, underlying mental health concerns, poor coping, toxic relationships, and poor health behaviors contribute to their declining mental and physical health and quality of life. Because change is difficult when you try to go it alone, I partner with and empower those who want support in changing and enhancing their lives.

CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree, Psychology, University of Kansas

  • Master of Science Degree, University of Miami, Coral Gables FL

  • Doctorate of Philosophy, University of Miami, Coral Gables FL (Clinical & Health Psychology)

  • APA-Accredited Internship, Miami VAMC, Miami FL (Neuropsychology Specialization)

  • Licensed since 1997, GA Board of Psychologists, #002080; Part-time practice for over 25 years

  • Published research on weight misperception, stress management, health beliefs, the superwoman schema, and other topics in several peer review journals
